Molokai - The Friendly Isle
A large-scale coffee estate was established on Molokai with plantings in 1990-91. This orchard has 450 acres of red catuai growing on the banks of the Molokai Irrigation System reservoir. Coffee is harvested each fall with a multi-pass mechanical harvest system. Coffee from ripe cherries is fermented/washed, and over-ripe cherry coffee is processed as naturals. Molokai’s coffee visitor center, in Kualapu’u, offers a fun mule draw wagon tour of the estate. After the tour, relax at the Espresso Bar or shop at the Plantation Store, open 7 days a week, which features island created crafts unique to Hawaii.
