Kauai - The Garden Island

Kauai has the largest coffee orchard in Hawaii and in the United States. This orchard is possibly the largest drip irrigated coffee orchard in the world and is harvested with mechanical harvesters. All coffee is processed wet using aqua-pulpers, for demucilage removal.

Eighty five percent of the acreage is in yellow catuai and the remainder is composed of red catuai, typica, mundo novo, san ramon and ikatu. Kauai has a coffee visitor center, coffee shop, and roasting plant adjacent to the coffee fields and factory. This visitor center is just 13 miles from the Lihue airport and is open 7 days a week.

There are some smaller coffee orchards on Kauai. These farms use the traditional Kona methods of coffee farming.
